The city of Delft is rich with history/culture. Along the river Schie/Vliet - and at the busy intersection of a tram, cars, bikes, buses and pedestrians - the Kalverbos sits at one of the epicentres of Delft’s cultural, industrial and infrastructural past, with access to the Oude Delft, the national protected Nieuwe Plantage, and the expansive Yeast Factory. The site also houses many monuments. However, the Kalverbos currently fails to effectively highlight and celebrate its rich context.
Our design focuses on the park as being an educative and introductory space to the city of Delft and its impressive past, present and future.
By first identifying views of relevance surrounding the park, sections of the lot are “lifted” to enable visitors to better visually engage with parts of Delft. While within the park, monuments are grounded as internal points of interest, in which visitors are able to tactilely explore via paths and stepped hills traversing the area.

Acknowledging that tourism in the city is on the rise, the design supports the municipality in acting as a visitors’ starting point and hub.
